2020 RB Kyle Edwards Excited To Finally Visit Notre Dame
This weekend’s trip to Notre Dame has been a long time coming for Kyle Edwards. The 2020 Destrehan (La.) running back has wanted to visit South Bend for over a year and will finally make the trip this weekend with his mother.
“In the past, they wanted me to visit and we couldn’t make it,” Edwards told Irish Sports Daily. “I had just got back from Alabama and heard there was a Junior Day coming up, so I was like ‘Mom, can we please go up?’ I want to see the campus and then we booked our flights. I’m very excited to get up to Notre Dame.”
The 6-foot, 200-pounder is looking forward to meeting running backs coach Lance Taylor while on the visit.
“He followed me on Twitter a few days ago,” stated Edwards. “I have his number and we’re going to talk soon.”
As he mentioned, the four-star prospect is fresh off a visit to Alabama. Edwards is serious about his academics and the Crimson Tide made sure to let him know they could set him up for success off the field.
“I liked how important they took academics,” said Edwards. “They made an effort to show how much they care and involved their players with academics.”
At Notre Dame, Edwards is looking forward to learning more about the Engineering program as he’s heard about it in the past.
“Every time I contact them, they have spoken about Engineering and how good they are with it,” explained Edwards. “I’m looking forward to seeing the Engineering program.”
When it comes to recruiting, Edwards hears a lot from schools in his area, but he’s hoping after this weekend’s visit, Notre Dame will be added to that list.
“Alabama, Louisiana, Texas A&M and Utah,” Edwards said of the schools who contact him the most. “They all contact me. Alabama and Texas A&M always text me every day. Utah texts me every now and then.”
On the field, Edwards is a big back and plays like it. The Destrehan star is also looking to add some speed this offseason to make a few more big plays this season.
“I’ve built up a lot more strength,” Edwards said. “I used a lot more of my power, but I also see things better. I can drop my shoulder to get some more yards even with them on me. I’m working on my speed. Sometimes I’ll get to the outside and barely get caught with a shoestring tackle. I want them to have to jump or dive as far as they can to get me.”
As for an offer from Notre Dame, Edwards admitted the Irish would jump into his top group if they decided to offer.
“It’d be huge,” said Edwards. “Notre Dame is a great school. I’ve always had good thoughts about it. They would bump into my top group.”
