Notre Dame went into last spring looking for a new Mike linebacker, but who it would be was already obvious before they strapped the pads on again.

Te’von Coney had already backed up the Mike linebacker position in 2017 behind Nyles Morgan and was a natural fit to slide over there from his starting Buck position. Clark Lea knew what he had in Coney and had played him at Mike when he took Morgan off the field. There was little doubt that Coney would succeed there and he did just that.
