2020 Midway (Texas) receiver Will Nixon‍ will make the trip from Waco to South Bend to get a look at Notre Dame on Saturday.

“I wanted to visit the campus,” Nixon told Irish Sports Daily. “I’m excited about Notre Dame and I’ve always admired Notre Dame. I watched them as a young kid too.”

Area recruiter Brian Polian has been his main point of contact to this point, which included a stop by Midway to check on Nixon. Polian has also made a positive impression on the 5-foot-11, 175-pounder.

“I’ve been hearing from them for a month or two,” stated Nixon. “Coach Polian said they are excited about me and he can’t wait for me to come up.

“He’s a great guy. He’s a cool coach. I love talking with him. It was great for him to come down a couple weeks ago.”

Baylor, Louisiana Tech, North Texas, Rice, Temple and Tulsa have extended offers to the Texas speedster, but a few more could be on the way.

One thing to keep in mind is Nixon is the son of Jeff Nixon, who is Baylor’s co-offensive coordinator and running backs coach.

“I’ve always wanted to play college football and maybe get to the next level,” explained Nixon. “It’s one step to get into that. It’s a dream.

“I plan on visiting Penn State later this summer. I’m waiting to hear from Boston College, Duke, Penn State and SMU.”

On the field, Nixon shows the ability to put pressure on defenses with his speed and while he’s working on getting faster, the Midway star is also working on his emotions as he gets too excited to play sometimes.

“My strength is my quickness and speed,” stated Nixon. “I have good hands as well. I need to improve on keeping my cool sometimes and improving on my strengths even more.”

Notre Dame needs speed and the Irish should be able to make a good impression over the weekend as Nixon is looking for several things the Irish program has to offer.

“I’m looking for a school with great academics,” said Nixon. “Getting a great education and having a degree has always been important to me. I’m also looking at the success rate of the players.”
