Notre Dame An Easy Decision For Peitsch
2020 St. John’s College (D.C.) long snapper Alex Peitsch almost committed when Brian Polian offered him last week, but he also wanted to make a mature decision.
The 6-foot-2, 218-pounder let it sink in and gave it some thought before going public with his commitment on Wednesday evening.
“The second I got offered, I kind of knew it was what I wanted,” Peitsch told Irish Sports Daily. “I didn’t want to be too anxious and commit on the spot. I really got to think it over. Once I did, it fit what I wanted and needed in a school. It’s a really good opportunity.”
The tipping point was a phone conversation with Polian over the weekend.
“Coach Polian gave me a call on Saturday,” stated Peitsch. “He said it was a committable offer and asked if I was their guy or if he should look at other guys. I told him I was, so that was kind of how it went down.”
Polian was excited to land the nation’s top long snapper and then explained he was done recruiting the position to Peitsch.
“He was really calm and steady,” Peitsch said. “He said it was great to hear and then went through everything. He told me I had to shut down my recruitment and he was going to shut down recruiting other guys. It was a really mutual thing.”
The decision to attend Notre Dame was also well received by his family.
“My parents were all in,” laughed Peitsch. “It’s a scholarship, so they don’t have to pay anything which is nice. It’s a great school and great football. It’s the whole package. They can’t really complain.”
Peitsch made his last trip to Notre Dame a few months ago but is already planning to get back to check out his future home.
“I’ll be back in June,” said Peitsch. “I’m not positive on a date yet, but I’m going to make it back out there in the summer.”
