Yes, you read the title right and yes, it’s who you think it is. 2022 Houston Heights (Texas) defensive back Bobby Taylor‍ is the son of former Notre Dame great Bobby Taylor.

The 6-foot-1, 160-pounder is planning a trip to Notre Dame for camp in June and Taylor is excited for the chance to compete in South Bend.

“Notre Dame had sent a camp invite and Coach Lyght had talked to my head coach,” Taylor told Irish Sports Daily. “I had a conversation with him and was told Notre Dame was looking at me. They want me to come up for the Sunday Night Lights camp in June.

“It means a lot. I picked up some early offers, but the attention from Notre Dame, it speaks volumes.”

It’s no shock Taylor knows a lot about Notre Dame, but he hasn’t been back to campus for quite some time, which is something he’s looking forward to experiencing.

“I’m pretty familiar with Notre Dame,” explained Taylor. “I haven’t been to Notre Dame to the point I can remember it. I’ve watched some of my dad’s highlights and I know Notre Dame is a good program.”

Florida A&M, Grambling, Tulsa and William & Mary have extended offers to Taylor and it’s something he’s not taking lightly.

“I’m humbled and grateful,” Taylor stated. “I didn’t think I was going to pick up any offers my freshman year. I went out there and did my thing. Schools recognized it and I’m grateful for the opportunity.”

With the early attention on the recruiting trail, I fully expect Taylor’s offer list to be well in the double-digits at this time next year as he’ll be making a position switch that will have programs excited.

“My freshman year, I played mostly receiver,” Taylor said. “This year, I’m transitioning to free safety and cornerback. I’m working on my hips and making sure my technique is right. I hope I can lead my team to a positive record and the playoffs.”

Taylor has also taken the time to get out and start making visits. The Texas native has been to Alabama A&M, Clemson, Florida, Grambling State Houston, Louisiana, Louisiana Tech, LSU and Memphis. Baylor and Notre Dame are looking like summer destinations, but Taylor admits one school has already impressed him.

“I went to Clemson over spring break,” explained Taylor. “I got the chance to meet some of the defensive linemen. Those guys were huge. I want to play with guys like that. They were humongous. They didn’t grow up like that, so they had to hit the weights. I have to be able to adjust myself, so I can be like that one day.”

It’s very early in his recruitment, but Notre Dame is a school Taylor wants to see and experience for himself.

“It’s a long flight, so If I do come up, I want to go on a tour to see the school and environment,” said Taylor. “I want to meet the coaches and take some pictures.”
