Justin Johnsonhad a chance to get to Notre Dame to see the school and work out in front of the coaching staff for this weekend’s Sunday Night Lights Camp and he was not disappointed.

“It was great,” the 2021 Illinois running back said. “I just got to see the football stadium. It was a nice stadium. I saw the practice facilities. I really enjoyed the experience. I got to talk to coaches, great coaches.”

The 5-foot-11, 195-pounder from Edwardsville High School was satisfied with his performance.

“I feel like I did pretty good and turned a lot of heads my way,” he said. “I did pretty good in the position-specific drills and did good in one-on-ones.

“I talked to Coach (Lance) Taylor afterward. He told me I did pretty well and he was impressed. He told me some things I could work on and stuff like that.”

Johnson was impressed with the Irish running backs coach.

“He’s a good coach,” he said of Taylor. “He’s obviously nice and helpful. He was real into his job.”

He was also impressed with what he saw on campus.

“It was great,” said Johnson. “They’re top-of-the-line facilities. I’d like to be there one day.”

He hopes to keep in touch with the Notre Dame staff moving forward.

“I’m just going to go to work and hopefully they follow me,” he said.

Johnson has early offers from Illinois and Illinois State.

“It’s amazing,” he said. “It feels it all came all at once. I’m just happy it happened.

“(College coaches) like the way I don’t think and I just move and react.”

He’s got a few more camps coming up with stops at Illinois, Kentucky and Stanford.

Comfort will be critical when it comes time for him to choose a school.

“The most important thing in the decision will be a place that feels like home and where I’m most comfortable.”
