It’ll be a busy few days for Daylan Carnell‍.

The 2021 Indianapolis athlete camps at Ohio State on Thursday before participating in a 7-on-7 tournament with his Ben Davis High School teammates at Indiana on Saturday and wrapping it up at Notre Dame’s Irish Invasion on Sunday.

Notre Dame extended an offer to the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder during his previous trip to South Bend back in January. The contact hasn’t been constant since then, but Carnell has kept in touch with the staff.

“They’ve been telling me that they wanted me to come back for Irish Invasion so I could see more of the school and all of that,” said Carnell. “I heard there’s supposed to be some other prospects they’re looking at there. I’m looking forward to going against them to see how they are and see if we would make a good class.”

“Coach (Todd) Lyght told me he wants to show me what they do and how they do things. I was very interested in that and that’s a reason why I’m coming.”

Lyght has made a strong early impression.

“I really like him, really, really like him,” Carnell said of the Irish defensive backs coach. “He’s a good dude and he’s done everything that I want to do.”

Carnell said he’s eager to show the Irish how fast he is and his ability as a cornerback.

“My overall defensive back technique got a lot better,” he said.

He’s been to South Bend a couple times before and said there isn’t anything in particular he really wants to see.

“I just want to get back up there to feel things out,” he said.

Carnell’s offer sheet also includes schools like Nebraska, Missouri, Purdue, Indiana, Louisville and Cincinnati among others.

After camping in Columbus today, Carnell will tour the school for an unofficial visit. He said an offer from the Buckeyes “would be big.”

“I’d really love that,” he said.

He’s looking at taking some other visits this summer, but doesn’t have anything locked in just yet. Carnell wants to make his decision next August, before his senior season.

”Basically, it will be the perfect fit and where I feel at home.”
