2021 Dublin Coffman LB Devon Williams Enjoys Return To Notre Dame

2021 Dublin Coffman (Ohio) linebacker Devon Williams‍ had been to Notre Dame, but Sunday provided a chance for him to get some coaching at Irish Invasion. 

Defensive coordinator and linebackers coach Clark Lea is known for making the small details essential and the 6-foot-1, 210-pounder saw the attention to detail very quickly.

“I learned a lot,” Williams told Irish Sports Daily. “It was probably the most technical camp I’ve been too. I learned a lot about getting the right foot placement and I’ll take that back with me.”

Lea’s coaching style also impressed the three-star prospect as he was relaxed but demanding. 

“He’s a great coach,” stated Williams. “He makes sure you have everything down to a point. He’s not going to let you slack or put your hands on your hips and bend over. He’s just a great coach.” 

Linebacker Jordan Genmark Heath pulled Williams to the side during a drill to give him some extra coaching and advice. Williams appreciated the move because he knows Genmark Heath didn’t have to do that much less be at the camp. 

“It means a lot because they have a lot going on,” said Williams. “They took time out to help me in the rain and all that.” 

Williams holds offers from Boston College, Indiana, Kentucky, Michigan, Minnesota, Pitt and West Virginia, but a Notre Dame offer could be a game-changer. 

“If they offered, it would mean a lot,” Williams stated. “It’s a great school. The education is great and they are one of the top schools in the country.” 

Notre Dame also treated Williams like a priority as the staff took him on a tour of campus before the start of camp. 

“Right before the camp, we got drove around by the staff and showed us everything,” said Williams. “We got to see the golf courses and all that. 

“It’s private. They aren’t going to let anyone in without knowing who they are or where they are coming from. They want to make sure their players and students are safe.”
