BREAKING | 2020 MS CB Caleb Offord Commits To Notre Dame
Things moved pretty quickly with Notre Dame’s recruitment of Caleb Offord, so it shouldn’t come as a shock that the 2020 Mississippi cornerback came to a relatively quick decision.
About a six weeks ago, Irish assistants Terry Joseph and Clark Lea made the trip down to Southaven High School to watch the 6-foot-1, 173-pounder run through some drills. A day later, Offord had an offer from Notre Dame.
Two weeks after the offer came, he made a quick stop in South Bend for an unofficial visit and then quickly scheduled an official visit for only two weeks later.
And now, just a month and a half after his first real contact with the Irish, Offord announced his decision to bring the process to a close with his commitment to Notre Dame.
“I just like the atmosphere up there,” said Offord, who spoke with Irish Sports Daily prior to making his commitment public.
“Everybody has treated me great, they were excited about me. The coaching staff has great relationships with everybody. Everybody just has the same attitude up there, they’re a family.”
Offord chose the Irish over offers from schools like Kansas, Duke, Vanderbilt, Arkansas, Kentucky and Louisville among others.
Notre Dame impressed Offord and his family off the field as he would be able to get a great education which could be in Engineering, which was a selling point by one of his hosts earlier this month.
“That’s very important,” Offord said of the educational opportunity at Notre Dame. “When I was up there, they were just talking about the kind of programs they have to set you up for life after football.
“I take my grades just as serious as football, so that’s really important.”
In addition to the academics and football, Notre Dame’s campus impressed the Offords, but as much as anything it was the feeling of comfort.
“It’s great to finally feel at home somewhere,” he said.
He’d been waiting to let everybody in on his choice since coming to his decision a couple weeks ago and now he’s glad to have the recruiting process over.
“It’s special. I enjoyed the whole process and I thank every coach who took the time out to recruit me and offer me.”
