Notre Dame’s big official visit weekend hasn’t produced any commitments yet, but yet looks like the operable word.

In addition to prospects like Caleb Offord and Landen Bartleson who the Irish seem to be in great position with, Notre Dame was close to reeling in another huge target in Xavier Watts‍.

“I nearly committed yesterday,” the 2020 Nebraska athlete told ISD publisher Mike Frank at the conclusion of his official visit.

The 6-foot-1, 180-pounder from Omaha held off, for now.

“Go home and talk it over,” Watts said when asked his next steps.

Watts also has offers from schools like Nebraska, Michigan and Wisconsin among several others.

Notre Dame has talked about Watts potentially playing on both sides of the ball, but the focus this weekend seemed to be at receiver.

“They would use me all over the field and will find ways to get me the ball,” Watts’ said of the staff’s pitch. “They see me as very explosive and a playmaker.”

Early enrollee Kyren Williams served as Watts’ host and he had the chance to meet several other current players during the trip.

“They were all super cool and welcoming,” he said. “They looked out for me and made sure I was good.”

Watts said nothing really surprised about the visit after checking out South Bend for the spring game back in April.

“It really was a really good visit.”
