Michael Carmody‍ has spent a ton of time in South Bend over the last couple years, but found the last three trips to be especially important.

The 2020 Pennsylvania offensive lineman took a quick unofficial visit at the start of this month before returning last week to commit to Notre Dame. He was back on campus this weekend for his official visit.

“It was awesome,” Carmody told Irish Sports Daily afterward. “It just reconfirmed everything that I had previously felt there.”

“Just the family atmosphere with the team. We got to hang out with them a little more this weekend.”

Carmody said he “definitely” feels like he fits in with the players in South Bend. He also had a chance to hang out with fellow 2020 offensive line commit Tosh Baker, who was also in town for an official.

“That was really good because we’ll be playing with each other next year,” said Carmody. “It’s good to start to build a relationship with him because eventually we’re going to be on the same team and we’ll have to have a good relationship. It was a really awesome experience.”

Carmody, who visited Notre Dame several times during his brother Robby’s basketball recruitment and subsequent enrollment, has gotten a chance to get a feel for Notre Dame from his own perspective over the last few weeks.

“It is a lot different because I always kind of viewed it not knowing if I’d ever be there,” he said. “Now that I know that’s where I’m going to end up, it’s really cool. Everything about it just fits who I am as a kid and I see myself fitting in really well with the players and everything there.”

In the span of a week, Carmody has gone from recruit to recruiter and got in the ear of some of the uncommitted prospects on campus.

“We got to talk to a few guys,” he said. “We were pushing them to commit a little bit, doing a little recruiting of our own. Hopefully some of them pull the trigger.

“I just tell them how I feel about the school. Everything about it is the best situation for me and a lot of these kids are a lot like me. After getting to meet them this weekend, they’re all bright kids who are good at football. Notre Dame is kind of a perfect situation I think for kids like me.”
