2020 Edge Rusher Phillip Webb Still Interested In Notre Dame
Adding another pass rusher to the 2020 class might still be in the air for Notre Dame as defensive end Mitchell Melton committed to Ohio State earlier this week.
If Notre Dame does decide it wants another guy off the edge, 2020 Lainer (Ga.) defensive end/linebacker Phillip Webb would be close to the top of the list and the feeling could be mutual.
“I’m interested in Notre Dame,” Webb told Irish Sports Daily “It’s a possibility I’ll get up there this fall.”
The four-star prospect released his Top 11 last month and the Irish were included along with Alabama, Auburn, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, LSU, Oklahoma, Stanford, Tennessee, Texas A&M.
Webb says it’s even moving forward and will use his five official visits to help narrow things down even more.
“It’s pretty much even for most schools,” stated Webb. “I’m just trying to figure things out and visit places a couple more times then I’ll know.”
The 6-foot-4, 210-pounder admitted he didn’t have the strongest relationship with Notre Dame defensive line coach Mike Elston, but it’s one that he’s interested in seeing where it goes.
“It’s still growing with Coach Elston,” Webb said. “I think he’s a good coach and he’s a smart guy.”
As for which schools will get official visits from Webb, the Georgia native hasn’t narrowed it down.
“I haven’t thought about it too much in terms of officials,” said Webb. “I’m going to try to visit a school in July and then the rest will be this fall.”
