Top 2020 Hoops Target Terrance Williams Talks Upcoming Decision & More
Terrance Williams is coming to the end of his recruiting process, but outside of a group of finalists that had been cut to seven, but now sits at eight, the 2020 swingman from Washington, D.C., isn’t giving away any hints.
“Everything is even,” Williams said when asked if any of the schools on his list had an edge.
The Gonzaga College High School star had announced Notre Dame, Virginia, NC State, Stanford, Georgetown, South Carolina and DePaul as his finalists before adding Michigan to the list following an offer from the Wolverines earlier this week.
He’s close to cutting that list to one.
“Hopefully by the end of this summer or the beginning of August,” he said when asked a timeline for a decision.
“It’ll help me focus on the high school season, which I want to do my senior year in order to accomplish my goal of winning another state championship. With that off the radar, it’ll help me focus on the championship more.”
Williams will huddle with those closest to him to figure out how his favorites stack up against each other.
“Me and my family will have a big sitdown, talk to my coaches and we’ll just dissect every school and see which one fits the best,” he said.
He’s kept in regular contact with Notre Dame, specifically head coach Mike Brey.
“He tells me that he imagines me as Bonzie Colson,” Williams said of Brey. “He thinks he can develop me into an NBA player. That’s a dream of mine and that’s his main message right now.”
The entire Notre Dame coaching staff, including Brey, has made an impact on Williams.
“They’re real, very, very real,” he said. “They give it to me real. Whenever I play bad, they let me know. Whenever I play good, they let me know. That shows a lot about them actually.”
The Irish have another key connection to Williams with second-year point guard Prentiss Hubb, who played with Williams at Gonzaga prior to coming to Notre Dame.
“I’m very close to him,” Williams said. “That’s a big factor in the decision.
“He just tells me how good Notre Dame is and how we could be a good duo like we were in high school.”
