Recruiting Observations
A few observations from the world of college football recruiting.
Coaches on the Road | 5.2
It's a week day so Notre Dame's Coaches are back on the road. We expect Deland McCullough to make his way to Florida to check on 2023 Notre Dame running back commit Sedrick Irvin Jr. along with 2024 Chaminade-Madonna Prep 2024 running back Davion Gause, who was on campus for the Blue-Gold Game. Notre Dame receivers coach Chansi Stuckey is expected at his alma mater on Monday to check on 2024 Northside (Ga.) safety Ricardo Jones, who recently picked up an offer from Notre Dame. Stuckey will also stop by to check on 2024 Jones County (Ga.) receiver Zion Ragins, who might be the fastest player in the country.Offensive coordinator Tommy Rees and tight end coach Gerad Parker are expected to be at Laurel Highlands (Pa.) to check up on 2023 receiver Rodney Gallagher. The four-star prospect is fresh off a visit to Penn State and announced he'll take official visits to Notre Dame, Oklahoma State, Penn State and West Virginia in June. It's a three-team race with Oklahoma State looking in from the outside. We expect Al Washington to be at DeMatha (Md.) to check on 2023 defensive lineman Jason Moore. Notre Dame will continue to push here as the Irish look to add him to the already stacked defensive line class. Moore likely has the Irish out in front and would be the final piece to Washington's dream haul in 2023. We expect Mike Mickens to be in Michigan doing some recruiting, while defensive coordinator Al Golden will be in the Northeast at The Loomis Chaffee School (Conn.). Golden is expected to check on 2024 defensive linemen Jerod and Jacob Smith, who hold power five offers. 2024 quarterback. Dante Reno also attends the school. Chris O'Leary will be on the road following his NFL Draft trip and his first will be Mill Creek High School (Ga.), the home 2023 five-star safety Caleb Downs. Downs visited for the spring game and we expect him back on campus for an official visit on June 10th. Notre Dame has consistently been a presence here while other schools have had momentum and faded. UGA will obviously be the team Notre Dame needs to overcome, but I'm told the Blue-Gold Game weekend might have been the best visit for his mother, which is crucial for the Irish. Special Teams coordinator and linebackers coach Brian Mason will be visiting various schools around Indiana today. His first stop was at Decatur Central (Ind.) to watch 2023 athlete/linebacker Aycen Stevens workout this morning. Stevens is the young brother of Tommy Stevens and he camped at Notre Dame last summer. Still tracking down Harry Hiestand's whereabouts for today.
