Tyler Buchner Wins WILD Game
2021 Notre Dame QB commit Tyler Buchner and The Bishop's School (Calif.) hadn't been tested much all year but they did in round one of the State Playoffs last night against Poway. Poway has an enrollment of 2,200+ while Bishop's has around 800 kids, so right off the bat there is a huge difference. Bishop's plays about 28 kids and had injuries to 2 starting offensive linemen.Bishop's won 52-51 and stopped Poway on a 2-pt conversion with 29 secs left to win. There were 5 onside kicks in the game combined. 4 of them were recovered. Bishop's got two on back-to-back onside attempts to push the lead to 46-30. Poway proceeded to get two-in-a-row to give themselves a chance to win. I don't have Buchner's stats just yet but here are his touchdowns:40-yard TD pass35-yard rushing TD57-yard TD pass13-yard TD pass3-yard rushing TD19-yard rushing TDPoway might be one of the dirtiest teams I've ever watched and you could tell that from the game film. Several late hits and cheap shots. Also one kid started yelling in a refs face. Unreal. TV Highlights/Buchner Interview here: Week 13: The Bishop's School Knights 52, Poway Titans 51

New Prediction + Visit
Notre Dame hosted 2021 Weddington (N.C.) running back Will Shipley for the first time over the weekend and the four-star prospect left glowing. I have tossed in a prediction for Notre Dame for Shipley, but it's far from over. I do feel like if Shipley had to make a decision today, he would feel comfortable giving his pledge to the Irish. Notre Dame was a program who was going to impress him as he's looking for a balance of football and academics. His parents were on the visit with him and they were equally impressed with the Irish had to offer on and off the field. As some of you know, Shipley's older brother is a freshman LAX player at Penn, so when Shipley and his family talk about academics, it's not just lip service. We've noted the connection between Shipley and Tyler Buchner for months and the two were able to reconnect over the weekend in addition to the other commits. It's a tight-knit 2021 class and Shipley felt that as he told me it was his favorite group of commits he's been around. That's telling as he's made several visits, but at the end of the day, kids want to go to a place where they feel comfortable. If he's stating that publicly, he's more than comfortable. The other aspect is running backs coach Lance Taylor as he's made a huge impression on Shipley. Not only did Taylor coach Shipley's favorite running back in Christian McCaffrey, but he's put in the time and maybe more than any other coach recruiting him. In fact, Taylor is expected to be at Weddington to check on Shipley on Thursday. The guy just saw Shipley on Saturday and will travel back down to Charlotte less than a week later? There should be no question who is at the top of the board for Notre Dame and Taylor feels good about the chances of landing Shipley at the end of the day. Some on the board were worried Shipley wouldn't want to follow 2020 running back commit Chris Tyree but that's literally not a concern. Heck, Shipley and the Tyree's had good conversations over the weekend and he left knowing they could form an extremely dangerous 1-2 punch if Notre Dame was the spot. Shipley isn't in a hurry to make a decision as he wants to get through his junior season and narrow things down to a final group, but it's clear Notre Dame will be in that group. The biggest hurdle Notre Dame will need to clear as it stands right now will be distance. Clemson, NC State, North Carolina and South Carolina are all schools closer to him, but I'm not sure they have made the initial impression Notre Dame did.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Irish Sports Daily rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Irish Sports Daily Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Irish Sports Daily readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Irish Sports Daily Rating

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.

Staff Predictions

The predictions represent which school each staff member believes will ultimately sign the recruit, and the confidence meter represents his level of certainty in that outcome.

Example #1

If the predicted school is Notre Dame and confidence is set to “High”, then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Notre Dame and I feel very certain about that.”

Example #2

If the predicted school is “Alabama” and confidence is set to “Low,” then the staff member is saying “I believe that this recruit will ultimately sign with Alabama, but I’m not very certain about that.”
