Thoughts on Lorenzo Styles Jr.
I was curious to see how 2021 Pickerington Central (Ohio) receiver Lorenzo Styles Jr. showed himself on Sunday as there were rumblings he had changed his game over the offseason. Those were accurate as the four-star prospect had another impressive showing on the ESPN stage. Styles flashed his speed and explosion on multiple occasions, but it was his lower body strength that was the biggest difference to me. Styles had a run out of the backfield where he bounced off two defenders for a solid gain and I'm not sure he makes that play last year. Styles has always been a smooth athlete, but he looked even smoother despite not getting loose for a big play on Sunday. Well, he did break open a punt return, but he fumbled and it would have come back due to a penalty. It's got to be a little frustrating for Styles as Pickerington Central isn't changing its offense for anyone. The Tigers are a run-heavy program and while they get him the ball, it's not as much as he'd get the rock at most programs. The good thing is Pick C has one of the best staffs in the country and he'll be ready to play from day one at Notre Dame, but if you're looking for flashy numbers, I'm not sure you're going to see that. However, Styles makes the most of his opportunities, which may speak even more about his talent. On defense, Styles wasn't tested much by a below-average Pickerington North offense. He did have a nice PBU where he came of his man and almost had a pick six. It showed a little maturity in his game and just experience of knowing where the ball is going. He needs to finish it, but not a bad play in week one. There is a lot to be excited about with Styles and you pair him up with some of the receivers on the roster or Deion Colzie/Donte Thornton Jr., I think it'd be very hard to match up with the Irish on the outside.

Lorenzo Styles Jr. on ESPN2
2021 Notre Dame receiver commit Lorenzo Styles Jr. will be leading his Pickerington Central squad against rival Pickerington North at 12pm ET on ESPN2. I would imagine you will see a ton of him on defense alongside his brother, 2023 safety Sonny Styles and maybe not as much on offense as Pick C is and will always been a run-first program. Yet, Styles still seems to find a way to make game-changing plays in a limited role.

National Average Rating

The National Average Rating is a proprietary formula that calculates an industry-wide aggregate rating for each recruiting prospect. The formula includes publicly listed grades, scores, ratings and rankings by national recruiting services, along with a Irish Sports Daily rating. Combining the data provides a rating for each prospect, which is then normalized to fit the Irish Sports Daily Rating 100-point scale.

The intent of this rating is to provide Irish Sports Daily readers with a comprehensive snapshot of how individual prospects rank nationally.

Irish Sports Daily Rating

99-100: Elite national prospect (Five-star)

Considered one of the best prospects in the nation and a likely difference-maker at the collegiate level. Displays all of the physical skills to be a future All-American with potential to be an early-round NFL draft pick.

90-98: Elite state prospect (Four-star)

Considered one of the best 30-40 prospects in the state and a top 250 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to be a major early contributor at the collegiate level with high professional potential.

80-89: Quality prospect (Three-star)

Considered one of the best 100 prospects in the state and a top 500 national prospect. Displays the physical skills to develop into a contributor over the course of his college career. Has the ability to become a professional prospect over time with development.

70-79: Solid prospect (Two-star)

Considered one of the top 250 prospects in the state. Has the physical skills to be a potential contributor at a D-1 program over the course of his collegiate career with significant development. Professional potential is low.
