Notre Dame CB Commit Clarence Lewis Excited For Season
Preseason practice is just about here, but Clarence Lewis and his teammates at Mater Dei Prep in Middletown, N.J., started working toward the season a while ago.
“Everything is going pretty good,” said Lewis. “Right now, we’re in camp working out and stuff like that.
“The real practices start in August. Right now, we’re getting ready in the weight room and learning the plays more.”
The 2020 Notre Dame cornerback commit has been training his mind just as much as his body.
“I focused on mental toughness like the heat and getting through the practice and making sure I’m doing everything 100 percent,” he explained. “We worked on getting stronger and lifting the right way.”
During the offseason, he spent time getting ready for his senior season of high school, which will see him play a couple positions other than cornerback.
“I learned a few new techniques at wide receiver and this year, I’m going to play safety, so I learned more stuff about safety,” he said.
He also understands the commitment he made to the Irish back in June will put a bit of a target on his back this year, although it won’t change his approach much.
“I think it’ll be a little bit different because I may get more looks because I’m going there, but I’m still going to go out there and give 100 percent,” he said.
The ultimate goal for his squad this season is simple.
“Our big goal is to make the state championship and actually win this time because the last two years, we lost,” he said.
Lewis took his official visit to South Bend prior to announcing his commitment to the Irish, but does expect to return for an unofficial this fall.
“I’m going to try to get to a game. I’m not sure which one though.”
