Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly spoke with Jack Nolan following Sunday’s practice.

On the new video board in the new facility and the facility:
“It helped us with a formation the officials hadn’t seen before. It was an unbalanced formation, so it cleared up a couple of things. It’s great to be in here. It takes the heat off the guys at the end of practice. The temperature is probably six or seven degrees. It’s a great facility and we’re going to use it.

“The geography is so good we can get in and out. It doesn’t use up any time.

On Sunday’s practice:
“Good day. We had situational awareness with some third-down situations, including our special teams.”

On receiver Michael Young Jr:
“Mike is doing a really nice job for us. He’s playing a consistent brand of football. I think last year he saw some spot duty for us with Chase (Claypool) playing a lot of the X position. This is his chance and opportunity. He’s really had a nice camp and played consistent. He’s made a lot of big plays for us.”

On goals over the next three weeks:
“A lot of it is about technical work. Now, we can get into some of the tactical and situational offense, defense and special teams, which we started on today with some third down and red zone situations. You blend in your special teams into those situations.

“The physical is always part of it. As you get closer to game day, you blend in the mental. What you start to see in practice eight, nine, ten, eleven and twelve, you blend in your tactical – your nickel, dime and some of your late-game situations with your offense. You’re starting to see that blend in now as we’re getting into the second week.”
