Caleb Johnson‍ made a quick stop at Notre Dame over the summer and was back in South Bend for the Irish’s game against USC on Saturday night.

The 2021 Florida offensive lineman thought Notre Dame played “pretty good” in its 30-27 win over the Trojans.

“They were running all over them in the beginning, but then they laxed up and let them score a few times in the end, but still ended up winning,” he said.

The Trinity Catholic High School standout has early offers from schools like Florida State, Auburn, Duke, Kentucky, Louisville and Georgia Tech among others.

He enjoyed the scene in South Bend on Saturday night.

“The atmosphere was really good, especially on our side,” he explained. “We were next to the student section and the band. We were kind of boxed in, so it was real fun.

“I saw they do that push-up thing with people. I’ve never seen that before, but that was kind of funny.”

He was also impressed with the facilities, some of which have been completed since his previous stop.

“We got to see the locker room and see the inside of the practice facility,” he said. “The last time I was here, I saw it bare bones. This was my first seeing it finished, that was fun to see.

“It’s definitely really good.”

Johnson has noticed the trend of college programs adding impressive indoor facilities to maximize practice time.

“It’s a really nice area too,” he said.

The Ocala, Fla., prospect, who has roots in the state of Indiana, had a brief opportunity to speak with Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn after the game. He’s also had some contact with other staff members to set up the visits, but would like to get to know the coaches better moving forward.

“I just need to build a relationship,” he said.

Johnson has a few other trips in mind this fall.

“I think I’m going to be visiting Arkansas and most likely Duke at some point and probably Auburn again also.”
