2021 Four-Star WR Andrel Anthony Blown Away By Brian Kelly
2021 East Lansing (Mich.) receiver Andrel Anthony Jr. is becoming a fixture in South Bend as the four-star prospect made his third visit since June over the weekend.
"It was sweet," Anthony stated. "I loved the environment as always. The coaches never let me down. They have a great vibe, so it was pretty awesome.
"I was able to take my senior quarterback and he really loves Notre Dame."
The last time Anthony was in South Bend, an offer followed after a good conversation with receivers coach Del Alexander.
Notre Dame ramped up the intensity over the weekend as the 6-foot-2, 165-pounder got time with head coach Brian Kelly.
"I had a great opportunity to meet coach Brian Kelly in his office one-on-one," explained Anthony. "He said they really want me and they love me.
"He watched my film the night before and told me I was an amazing player and a dynamic receiver. That meant a lot."
The time with Kelly made an impression, but the fact the head coach at Notre Dame watched his film might have meant more as only one other head coach has met with him.
"To take the time to watch my film the night before and talk to me one-on-one before the game was pretty sweet," said Anthony.
"It has only happened at Michigan State, but besides that, no. It was sweet."
Notre Dame has also received commitments from two other 2021 receivers since Anthony's last visit.
Anthony hasn't spoken to Lorenzo Styles Jr. or Deion Colzie just yet, but he knows they could be a powerful trio if he were to commit to the Irish.
"I don't find it as a positive or a negative," Anthony said of joining two of the best receivers in the 2021 class. "I feel like it's both. I get bracketed on my high school team and you couldn't do that in college. If one guy is killing you, the other guy will step up."
As for other programs, Anthony hopes to make a few more trips this fall.
"I'm going to Michigan-Michigan State next weekend," stated Anthony. "I'm going to try to get to Penn State and Wisconsin and Louisville or Kentucky at some point. I'm not sure when yet."
The return to Notre Dame wasn't an indication of where the Irish might stand in his recruitment, but it's also Anthony thinks highly of the program.
"No, not really," Anthony said of if his return was related where the Irish sat in his recruitment. "I just wanted to get out there and watch a game. I really like them."
Anthony was also in Ann Arbor to see Michigan beat the Irish, but the game won't be a deciding factor in his recruitment.
"The quarterback commit in my class and the offensive style will be important," explained Anthony. "The coaching and if I can see myself at the school. Does it feel like a family environment and could I see myself there for four years and not think about transferring?"
And yes, Anthony has started to dive into researching Notre Dame's 2021 quarterback Tyler Buchner.
"My quarterback and I looked at him a little bit, but not really in-depth," Anthony said. "I've seen he's had a crazy season."
Anthony isn't in a hurry to make a decision and will now look to decide on where he might want to take his official visits starting this spring.
"I'm just being patient," said Anthony. "No rush at all. I don't want to miss any opportunities.
"I'll probably go on some officials in the spring, but I don't know where yet."
