Kmet Commits
Cole Kmet went back and forth between the two, but in the end, the 2017 Illinois tight end decided Notre Dame was the best fit for him and he pulled the trigger on Friday morning and committed to the Irish.
“It was more of a gut feeling knowing that it was where I was comfortable and knowing Notre Dame was the place for me,” said Kmet, who was down to the Irish and Ohio State.
The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder made the decision on Thursday night and called Notre Dame tight ends coach Scott Booker to inform him before letting Brian Kelly in on the news.
“They were extremely excited,” he said. “They’re excited for me and excited for my family. They were pumped up.”
Kmet is the fourth member of Notre Dame’s 2017 recruiting class, joining offensive linemen Josh Lugg and Dillan Gibbons and fellow tight end Brock Wright.
“A lot of relief and I’m really excited to be a part of the Notre Dame family now.”
Kmet had offers from the likes of Baylor, Illinois, Iowa, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, North Carolina, Northwestern, Ohio State and South Carolina.
