2017 tight end Cole Kmet made his second trip to Notre Dame in as many months on Thursday and it couldn’t have gone any better. The Illinois native visited Ohio State on July 28th and now will return home after visiting the Midwest powerhouses.

“The Notre Dame trip was great,” Kmet told Irish Sports Daily. “We got to tour the whole campus and go to a couple academic meetings. The Business school was amazing,” stated Kmet. “We got to go on top of Touchdown Jesus and see the whole campus. That was really cool.

The 6-foot-4, 220-pounder also got to spend quality time with tight end coach Scott Booker, head coach Brian Kelly and multiple assistant coaches. Kmet admitted that the conversations with the Notre Dame staff were different than other conversations at other programs.

“I got to talk with Coach Booker, Coach Coach Kelly, Coach (Mike) Denbrock, Coach (Harry) Hiestand and Coach (Bob) Elliott,” stated the three-star prospect. “Their message was basically our university is a fit for you and we believe you would strive here both academically and athletically.

“They were different conversations, because of the faith aspect of everything. I am Catholic and with Notre Dame being a Catholic university, they were able to talk openly with me about it.”

Kmet brought his family on the visit and by all accounts everyone enjoyed the trip to South Bend on Thursday. The St. Viator standout will try to squeeze in one more visit before the fall camp starts.

“My family loved it and they had so much fun,” he said. “Maybe a little too much fun, because they are all passed out in the car. I am trying to get to Northwestern within the next week. After that, I am going to get ready for the fall.”

The Notre Dame visit was Kmet’s second trip to South Bend in two months, as he visited for Irish Invasion. Kmet is already in the process of figuring out a return date to Notre Dame, but don’t expect a decision in the near future.

“We are in the process of planning to come to a came at Notre Dame this fall,” he explained. “I am not sure which one yet. I am not really planning on making decision anytime soon, but if something feels right with a school, I will not be afraid to make a commitment.”

Notre Dame definitely helped itself today and will be a major player in Kmet’s process.

“The academics and faith life separate Notre Dame from everyone else,” stated Kmet. “They have so much to offer between those two things.”
