Chris Doherty Transferring From Notre Dame
Notre Dame basketball coach Mike Brey announced sophomore forward Chris Doherty is leaving the program on Tuesday
"Chris Doherty is going to leave our program. He came in to see me the other day. I fully understand that the way the climate in college basketball with playing time. It's been hard to get to him with Juwan (Durham), John (Mooney) and Nate (Laszewski) playing so well."
Doherty has appeared in 17 games over the course of his career. The Massachusetts native averaged 0.9 points, 0.8 rebounds and 0.1 assists in those games.
"He'll leave at the end of the semester and he'll finish school," explained Brey. "He'll not be with the team anymore.
"We'll help him find the next place and we signed two big guys. We continue to recruit big guys."
As far as this season goes, Brey will now battle depth issues once again as he'll work with three bigs the rest of the year.
"We'll figure it out," said Brey. "We'll practice 30 minutes instead of 45 minutes the rest of the season."
