Coach | 2022 DE Wilfredo Aybar "Once-In-A-Lifetime" Player
Notre Dame didn’t drop by Cheshire Academy during the Contact Period this month, but the Irish have been in contact with head coach David Dykeman regarding Wilfredo Aybar.
“They reached out a little bit during the season, but they did not come by on this trip,” Dykeman said.
Of course, it seems like everybody has reached out to the Connecticut prep school coach about his 2022 defensive end.
“He’s a once-in-a-lifetime guy,” Dykeman said. “He’s the best.
“He has ridiculous size and speed. He’s 6-4, 225 pounds right now. He’s 16 years old. He’s got explosive speed and he’s a high academic guy. He’s really the complete package.”
Dykeman says the Fall River, Mass., native checks the boxes off the field as well as on it.
“Every one of them,” he says. “He’s a remarkable young man. He lives on campus. He has an incredible work ethic, dual-threat athlete, runs track for us as well. Good teammate, great in the weight room, all of that.”
He’s at double-digit scholarship offers from schools like Michigan, Florida, Miami, Penn State, Nebraska and Tennessee and he’s already been pegged by some as a future five-star prospect.
But you wouldn’t know that from talking to him.
“This is what makes him so special,” his coach says. “He’s taking it in stride. He hasn’t changed an ounce. He works hard every day. He’s two years away from anything.
“He’s being thoughtful. We’ll get him on some visits here soon and let him get a chance to start to get a feel for this process and the types of opportunities he has in front of him.”
And while the Irish are sure to continue showing interest in Aybar, Dykeman expects Aybar would reciprocate that.
“How could you not be interested in Notre Dame? It’s a great place. I’m sure that would be one that would be of interest to him.”
