Tywone Malone‍ is a standout high school football player and a standout high school baseball player. The 2021 New Jersey defensive lineman/first baseman hopes to be a standout in both at the next level as well.

In fact, that’s the first thing he mentioned when asked what the biggest factors in his college decision will be.

“Pretty much a school that says I’m allowed to play both sports, that’s going to be a big decision,” he said. “Also, the relationship, how I feel with the school and stuff. A place I feel comfortable and can call home for the next three or four years.”

The 6-foot-4, 296-pounder from Bergen Catholic High School already has several scholarship offers from schools like Notre Dame, Michigan, Ohio State, Penn State, Alabama, Texas A&M, LSU, Georgia, Florida and USC among several others to play football.

Malone visited South Bend over the summer and hopes to return in the coming months.

“I’m mostly concentrating on the baseball perspective of things, but probably after I’ll try to get back up there,” he said.

He’d like to get a better look at the baseball side of things in South Bend.

“The baseball facilities and stuff like that,” he said. “I already saw the football stuff and I want to try to play both sports in college.”

Malone has formed a good relationship with Texas A&M defensive line coach Elijah Robinson and is interested in the Aggies.

“We just check up on each other, see how everybody is doing, how the family is doing and stuff,” Malone said of himself and Robinson.

“Just the culture there, the 12th Man, it’s just something you look into. That’s like the definition of a brotherhood. They’re all for one another, they’re not playing selfish. They just all play together.”

He visited College Station with 2020 Bergen Catholic safety Jordan Morant who ended up signing with Michigan.

“I’m trying to get back there in the summertime,” he said of Texas A&M. “Like I said, I saw mostly all football perspective. Now I’m trying to get back. When I went there with Jordan, I did see a little bit of baseball for a couple hours, but I really haven’t seen the coaches and stuff like that, so that’s something I’m looking into.”

Florida is also coming after the New Jersey defender.

“They pretty much say I could be a dominant player in the SEC,” he said of the Gators. “They said I could really change that program around. I pretty much appreciate that because I love working hard. To have a whole staff behind me like that is a nice thing.”

He could visit Gainesville this summer.

Malone pointed to Ohio State and Penn State as the teams that are contacting him the most.

Michigan is coming after him as well with Wolverines’ assistant Anthony Campanile leading the way. Campanile is the brother of Malone’s head coach at Bergen Catholic, Vito Campanile.
