2021 Kennedale (Texas) safety JD Coffey‍ is quickly becoming one of the most coveted prospects in the country and has Notre Dame on his mind.

"I've been talking to Notre Dame a lot," stated Coffey. "I plan on getting up there."

It won't come as a shock, but 2021 Notre Dame offensive line commit Blake Fisher has been in contact with the four-star prospect and hopes it sways Coffey into taking a visit to Notre Dame.

However, it's not just Fisher, but the Notre Dame staff has also been active in pursuing the Kennedale star.

"I know a lot of the coaches and they're recruiting me a lot," explained Coffey. "I've talked to some of the commits and I like them a lot. I plan on building a better bond with the coaches and players and getting up there soon."

Over the weekend, Coffey took a visit to Texas, which was a significant one as he got to meet the new staff for the first time.

"It was a good visit," Coffey stated. "I got to meet the new defensive coordinator, Coach (Chris) Ash. I had a good time. I really liked him. His defensive scheme is similar to my high school, so I was familiar with it."

The chance to spend time with Ash was big as Coffey didn't know who he was entering the visit.

He also learned Ash coaches safeties, which is a positive.

"I like that a lot," Coffey said of Ash coaching safeties. "When the defensive coordinator is also the safeties coach, it helps a lot. It gives me an advantage.

"I had never heard of him, so it was a good time meeting him. I liked him a lot."

As far as other visits, Coffey plans to get out and about this spring, but outside of a trip to Lubbock, nothing has been set to this stage.

"I should be at Texas Tech next weekend and I'm planning on taking a lot of visits," said Coffey. "I haven't scheduled dates, but I'll be all over the place this spring."
