Delpit: ND Offer Big
2017 Lamar (Texas) safety Grant Delpit is used to getting big offers, but the four-star prospect added another offer from prestigious program on Tuesday morning.
“Coach (Todd) Lyght offered me today,” Delpit told Irish Sports Daily. “We had been talking for a while and he pulled the trigger with the offer today. Notre Dame is a big offer. I don’t know much about them yet, but I will hopefully get up there in the summer at some point.”
Alabama, Baylor, Florida, Houston, LSU, Miami, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Oklahoma State, TCU, Tennessee, Texas, Texas A&M and USC have all extended offers to the 6-foot-1, 180-pounder and he plans on narrowing it down sooner than later.
“I am going to come out with my top schools in the next couple weeks,” stated Delpit. “I don’t have a commitment planned, but my top schools will be out.
“It will be a Top 5, Top 7 or a Top 10. It will be hard to narrow it down.”
Delpit has had a busy offseason with visits to Miami, LSU, Texas A&M, Baylor, TCU, and Florida, but things will slow down after his last planned visit this weekend.
“I am taking pretty much my last planned visit this spring to USC this weekend,” explained Delpit. “I don’t have any other planned visits. I was at Florida last weekend. I could go visit someplace close coming up, but I don’t have any far visits planned other than USC.”
When you turn on the film, Delpit is a do everything safety and one Notre Dame could definitely use in the secondary.
“I am a big guy with a bunch of range,” said Delpit. “I’m not slow and I am quick. I like to hit and come downhill. If they throw it deep, I’ll pick it off. I try to take my game from a couple people and combine it all to better myself.”
“I love the Honey Badger (Tyrann Mathieu) and his aggressiveness. I love Sean Taylor’s aggressiveness, so I just try to combine them into one.”
As Delpit is set to narrow down his top schools, he is looking at a few categories to help him trim his list.
“Academics is important and if I fit the defense,” Delpit said. “I am looking at the coaching staff, early playing time and all that kind of stuff too.”
