2022 F Kyle Filipowski Talks Recruitment Surge, Notre Dame Interest
Kyle Filipowski has been busy.
The 2022 forward landed five offers on June 15th, the first day college coaches could directly reach out to rising junior prospects and has added a couple more since.
Filipowski, who attends Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts picked up offers from Maryland, Marquette, Xavier, Virginia Tech and Boston College last Monday and has since added Iowa and Louisville to that list.
He already had offers from UCLA, Providence and Vanderbilt.
“It was awesome,” Filipowski said of the surge in his recruitment. “Now I’m getting my name out there and everybody knowing who I am and the type of player I can and will be.
“It’s just awesome because I’ve got all these coaches contacting me and showing major interest and everything even though I’m not ranked or any of the different sites, which has proven that does not mean anything at all.”
Filipowski had been in communication with Notre Dame prior to Monday, but had his first chance to speak with Irish head coach Mike Brey that day. The Irish haven’t offered yet, but Brey made it clear they’re interested.
“He was just introducing himself, telling me he watched my game film and loved what he saw and that he’ll be in contact with me and that they’re very interested in me,” Filipowski said.
“I didn’t get to speak to him for long and our relationship is just starting to begin, but he seemed like a very straight-forward, genuine, nice guy. I’m just looking forward to speaking with him in the future.”
The New York native was grateful to hear from Brey and all of the head coaches.
“Obviously, hearing from head coaches themselves means something because they’re taking their time to reach out to me to show that they themselves are interested in me and want me to be part of their program,” he said. “It was special and made me feel like a priority for them.”
Filipowski hopes to hit the road as soon as he can.
“We were planning on trying to take some visits this summer, but with the NCAA pushing back the live period, we don’t know when we’re going to be able to take visits.”
