Notre Dame Offer Means "Great Deal" To 2022 F Kyle Filipowski
Notre Dame has been in contact with Kyle Filipowski since mid-June, when college coaches could start directly reaching out to prospects in the Class of 2022.
Irish head coach Mike Brey called Filipowski on June 15th, the very first day he could, to let the 6-foot-9 forward know how interested he was.
Brey called back on July 24th to prove it.
“We were just catching up and he offered me,” said Filipowski, who is from New York, but plays at Wilbraham & Monson Academy in Massachusetts. “The offer obviously means a great deal to me. Every offer from every school does, but I know my high school coach has a really good relationship with some of the staff and he’s been in contact with them for a while.”
Filipowski has seen a major surge in his recruitment since the opening of the contact period, hauling in offers from schools like Louisville, Purdue, Georgetown, Creighton, Maryland, Marquette, Xavier and Iowa among others along with offers he already had from programs like UCLA and Vanderbilt.
He said the offer from the Irish shows they trust and want him to become a part of their program one day.
“Knowing that they finally offered means a lot because it means they have faith in that type of player I am and will become as well as the type of person I am,” he said.
The communication will continue and actually ramp up a bit now.
“We’re planning on getting on a Zoom meeting with the staff sometime soon so I can see more of the campus and see some film and stuff,” said Filipowski. “I’m looking forward to that.
“Obviously we can’t take visits or anything yet, but over this Zoom meeting, I’m hoping to get a better feeling for the environment and the campus as well as how the basketball team is and what the coaches’ goals are in helping the players and just overall, the type of people there and how you could be put in an environment to be successful.”
With so much attention being thrown his way so fast and in-person visits on pause for now, Filipowski isn’t rushing his recruitment.
“I’m still going with it right now, not narrowing anything down or going off any timetable.”
