Isaac Traudt‍ has a couple of things he knows he’s looking for in a college and Notre Dame certainly checks one of those boxes already.

The 2022 forward from Nebraska landed a scholarship offer from the Irish on Friday during a call with head coach Mike Brey.

“He said how excited he was about me and that he’d like to offer me,” the 6-foot-9, 195-pounder said.

“They’ve been watching film on me the past couple weekends and they think I fit their style of play really well.”

The Grand Island Senior High School already had offers from schools like Creighton, Iowa State, Kansas State, Missouri, Nebraska, Oklahoma State, Stanford and Wisconsin among others. Still the offer from Notre Dame made a big impact.

“I got really excited because I’ve always thought Notre Dame would be a pretty good fit for me and how they’ve done with players like myself,” he said.

“They like shooters and really skilled players. They don’t really have certain position players, they let everyone just play the game.”

That’s one of the key factors Traudt is looking for in a college.

“The number one thing is how I fit their style of play, that’s really important to me because I want to try to make a career out of basketball,” he said. “The second thing is my relationships with the coaches and players.”

Traudt will get a chance to learn more about the coaches and players at Notre Dame in the weeks and months to come.

“I think we’re going to do a Zoom sometime next week with the whole coaching staff and maybe do a little virtual visit,” he said. “Just see the campus and go over academics a little bit and maybe watch some film breakdown of Notre Dame and how they play.

Other than that, just developing a relationship with the coaches.”

Traudt is also well aware of Notre Dame’s reputation as a strong academic school, “so that’s a plus.”

He said he’d love the chance to visit South Bend once the dead period, which has been in place since the start of the COVID-19 crisis, is lifted.

For now, though, it’s too early for Traudt to start trimming his list.

“Basically, everyone who’s offered me is really high on my list. I don’t really have any top choices right now. I just want to keep talking to all of them. Once visits start, maybe I’ll start narrowing it down.”
