BREAKING | Notre Dame Lands 2022 Four-Star OL Billy Schrauth
Notre Dame has secured another big-time commitment in the 2022 recruiting class as St. Mary's Springs (Wis.) offensive lineman Billy Schrauth has committed to the Fighting Irish.
The 6-foot-5, 285-pounder chose Notre Dame over Arizona State, Central Michigan, Iowa, Michigan, Mississippi State, Northwestern, Ohio State, Penn State, Stanford, Tennessee, Western Michigan and Wisconsin.
Notre Dame offensive coordinator Tommy Rees made Schrauth a priority since offering him last in April of 2020 and a trip to Wisconsin on Monday with Marcus Freeman and Chad Bowden sealed the deal.
“If you look at things in the big picture, it’s really the best of both worlds,” said Schrauth. “It’s one of the best universities. My education has always been really important to me. Notre Dame checks that box for sure.
“On the other side, athletically…it doesn’t get much better than that.”
It’s a perfect match and those around Schrauth have known Notre Dame was the ideal fit for the Wisconsin native.
“He’s a very intelligent young man,” stated St. Mary’s Springs head coach Bob Hyland last fall. “I think he has a 4.0 or very close to it.”
“He’s very competitive. He works hard, but he has the natural God-given talent.”
The four-star prospect was familiar with the Irish before October’s unofficial visit and similarities between Notre Dame and his high school won at the end of the day as Wisconsin had momentum for most of the summer.
"I went to Catholic school my whole life and now I'm in a Catholic high school, so my faith is obviously something that's important to me," Schrauth said. "Notre Dame, yeah, it doesn't get better than that."
Schrauth is Notre Dame’s fifth offensive line commit in the 2022 recruiting class and will Joey Tanona, Ashton Craig, Ty Chan and Aamil Wagner.
