Notre Dame TE Commit Cane Berrong Draws Huge Comparison

Terrence Edwards knows it may sound a little “crazy,” but Cane Berrong‍ reminds him of a certain NFL tight end.

Edwards, who runs TE/WR Academy in Georgia, has worked with the 2021 Notre Dame tight end for years and he sees similarities between Berrong’s game and a current NFL star.

“This is crazy, but he reminds me of George Kittle because he’s a dominant blocker at the line of scrimmage and he’s very explosive and has good hands,” Edwards says of Berrong. “I’m looking forward to seeing his growth as well.”

Edwards has already seen plenty of growth from the 6-foot-4, 240-pounder.

“Cane has really done well,” the trainer says. “He’s coming off an injury in the spring. We’ve worked and he’s as explosive of a tight end as I’ve ever seen.”

The biggest thing Edwards has worked on and will continue to work on with Berrong is route-running.

“He comes from a run-based offense at his high school, so we’re just trying to get him to understand the passing game concepts and what he will be looking for when he gets to college,” Edwards says of the Hart County High School standout. “How he has to understand leverages, understand how he needs to set guys up.

“He’s not just going to be the biggest, strongest, fastest guy on the field. He’s going to have to use that athleticism now to get open and keep separation.”

Like the other Notre Dame targets Edwards trains, wide receivers Deion Colzie and Jayden Thomas, he just as impressed with Berrong off the field as on it.

“He’s a great kid. Cane is an awesome guy. All three of them are great young men who come from three great families.”
