Coach | Notre Dame Offer "Big Deal" For 2022 CB Davison Igbinosun

In speaking with Union High School head coach Lou Grasso, Davison Igbinosun‍ seems like a no-brainer.

“He’s got great abilities,” Grasso says of the 2022 New Jersey cornerback. “He’s tall and long for a defensive back, that’s rare. He's very disciplined. He knows his game plan. He studies hard as a player. He’s a great cover guy, great tackler. He does all of the things well.”

And judging by the fact that Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens offered Igbinosun the same day he first made contact, it seems the Irish would agree.

Igbinosun comes across as older than he is.

“Very much so,” Grasso says. “He’s very mature, takes care of his business. Not a lot of issues with him. He doesn’t do anything wrong. He follows who he is and he works hard. He's a real pleasure to coach.”

That attitude can help him at the position as well.

“He’s very confident,” says Grasso. “He hasn’t really had a lot of opportunities to get down on himself because he’s been very successful. He’s been surrounded by a bunch of Division-I guys, so he didn't really have a chance to get too comfortable. He's always been competing on a daily basis with really good players. That's been helpful and his general spirit in the way he goes about his business.”

Igbinosun added Notre Dame to an offer sheet that already included schools like Duke, Rutgers, Boston College, Pitt, Temple and UMass among others. The Irish offer clearly stands out.

“Absolutely,” his coach says. “He was pumped up. In his eyes, this is the biggest offer he has. We like where all this stuff is going. We like the trajectory of it. I know he really enjoyed talking with the coach from Notre Dame. It's Notre Dame. It’s not something that’s not a big deal. It's a big deal.”

Grasso says any high-level program would be a fit for Igbinosun.

“He’s what you’re looking for in a corner in 2021,” the coach says. “He’s 6-foot-3, maybe a little taller than that now. And he wants to play on the biggest stage in the biggest place possible. I think it’d be a great fit for him. I could see him fitting in very well.”

Grasso is hoping recruiting – and everything – gets back to normal this year, but notes Igbinosun will get plenty of interest regardless.

“With the bigger, bigger recruits, it doesn’t matter anyway. The guys who are Davison’s level, he's going to get his opportunities no matter what.”
