On Monday, 2022 Hillgrove (Ga.) safety Emory Floyd‍ got some news he had been waiting for from Notre Dame safeties coach Chris O'Leary.

Floyd called O'Leary and then was offered by Notre Dame.

"It means a lot," Floyd told Irish Sports Daily. "Notre Dame has been one of my top schools that I've looked at so far. To have an offer from them is really great."

The relationship between Floyd and O'Leary is new, but a strong foundation has already been set.

"We had been talking for about two weeks," stated Floyd. "He likes the way I play.

"He's a real chill guy. He loves his defensive backs. He talks to me about bettering me as a man and not just a football player."

The Georgia native has close to 20 offers as schools see him projecting at a few spots in the secondary at the next level.

"I could move to corner, but most schools are recruiting me at safety," explained Floyd. "I don't really have a preference. I just want to play where the ball is because I'm a physical guy."

Notre Dame will have some stiff competition from Auburn, Florida, Florida State, Georgia and South Carolina, but Floyd is open to leaving the South if the fit is right.

Floyd's mother will also play a factor in his decision and she was pretty excited to learn Notre Dame had offered her son.

"I'm definitely open," Floyd said. "I just want to find the best school and the best fit. I'm just looking into the schools with my mom. She's really big on academics.

"She was ecstatic about the offer from Notre Dame."

Floyd's next step will be to narrow down his recruitment and that will come in the coming months.

Floyd also hopes to take a few unofficial visits before his decision date in May, even if he can't have contact with the staff on campus due to the NCAA dead period.

"My commitment will be May 7th and I'll probably narrow it down on my birthday on April 19th," said Floyd. "I'm into real estate and business. I heard Notre Dame has great academics, so I'm looking forward to learning about it."
