2023 Notre Dame OL Target Alex Birchmeier Prepared for Season & Recruitment
2023 Broad Run (Va.) offensive lineman Alex Birchmeier experienced a lengthy offseason, but it was also a productive one.
The 6-foot-5, 275-pounder won a State Title in wrestling in February and finally started his junior football season last week.
"We played our first game last Tuesday and we won 41-14,” Birchmeier told ISD. “Having a 15-month offseason, I don't think I could be more prepared."
It might have been just one game, but the four-star prospect already felt a difference from a year ago.
"It's not as hard as last year,” explained Birchmeier. “I've definitely gotten bigger and stronger since then, along with my team. I wanted to stay athletic while getting my speed and strength up."
On the recruiting trail, Birchmeier has seen his recruitment blow up in the last week. Notre Dame offered him on February 23rd and the next day Birchmeier received one from Ohio State. A few days later, Michigan and Oregon joined his offer list.
"It's been fun and picking up a lot lately,” said Birchmeier. “It caught me a little off guard, but I think I was pretty prepared for it. All the big schools and top schools are great to have offers from."
When it comes to Notre Dame, Birchmeier is well-aware of the program and the tradition of the offensive line.
"I'm pretty familiar with Notre Dame,” Birchmeier stated. “It was one of those offers I wanted to have when my recruitment started. Notre Dame is definitely a school I will consider."
Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn offered the Broad Run star and will lead his recruitment, which is exciting for Birchmeier.
"He's a really cool guy,” Birchmeier said. “He's the type of coach who would develop me into a better player, which I think is pretty cool."
Birchmeier isn’t in a hurry to make a commitment or even take visits as he’s focused on his football season.
“I'll start visiting places once things start opening up,” said Birchmeier. “I just want to go to whatever school has the best opportunities for me."
