2027 OL Mason McDermott Excited For Notre Dame Return

Mason McDermott‍ is busy on the road this spring and the 2027 Indiana offensive lineman will make his way to South Bend early next month. 

“I have a strong connection with the o-line coach, Joe Rudolph and the recruiting coach who was there, Coach (Caleb) Davis,” says McDermott.

The communication has been a bit limited because of McDermott’s youth, but it’s been enough to get the 6-foot-7, 285-pounder’s attention. 

“They've texted me on X through my coach, about how they've been trying to reach out to me to go to these visits,” McDermott says. 

“They seemed to really like me for my size and the way I moved.”

And on his end, he likes plenty about Notre Dame.

“I like the culture there,” he says. “It was something different. The history and the academics that they provide are something that is really special. 

“When I went to a game there, I got to see it in person. I got to see the student section and the energy they brought and it was really good.”

McDermott, who has an early offer from Toledo, has an idea of what he’ll be looking for when he returns to South Bend in a few weeks.

“More academics and the weightlifting room and what they do in the offseason to train,” he says. 

He visited Iowa this past weekend and will be at Miami-Ohio next weekend. He also has plans to visit Ohio State, Indiana and Northwestern this spring. 

It’s obviously still quite early in McDermott’s process, but he’s already started identifying what will be most important to him when it’s time to choose a school.

“I'm looking for the culture and the campus atmosphere and could I be there and obviously how the fans react to football.”
