If AJ Harris‍ was honored by the offer he landed from Notre Dame a couple weeks ago, the 2023 Alabama cornerback was blown away by the virtual visit he did with the Irish on Wednesday.

“It was amazing most definitely, but what was so great was they explained more than just the football aspect, which is big to me and my family,” the 6-foot-2, 185-pounder said.

“They got down to the statistics of everything football-wise and academic-wise and how prestigious the school is. So, we got to talk academics and football. And for the coaches to tell me that the diploma means more to them than football, that meant a lot to me and my family.”

Harris said Notre Dame cornerbacks coach Mike Mickens and new Irish recruiting staffer Chad Bowden were on the call.

“I can't lie to you,” Harris said. “I loved them and I've definitely built a relationship with them thus far. Actually, I've been calling them every week. I love the relationship with them.

“I plan on getting on campus as soon as possible because I definitely love the relationship I'm building with them. It feels really genuine so far. They can tell you anything you want to hear on the phone, but I believe them when they tell me what they're telling me. I don't believe they're just feeding me lies. They're being real genuine and truthful with me throughout this process, which is huge for me.”

Harris’ father is from Gary, Ind., and the Glenwood School standout doesn’t want to wait much longer to get to South Bend.

“Me and my dad have to talk some more, but I believe I would want to go before the dead period,” he said. “Although I wouldn't be able to see any of the football stuff, I would just like to look at the campus itself.

“Because based off that virtual visit, it looked amazing. It would be nice to see it in person because I'm definitely interested in getting up there as soon as possible.”

Harris has plenty of early offers and specifically pointed to schools like Oklahoma, Georgia, Arizona State Mississippi State, Auburn and Maryland as ones that have his attention, but he isn’t ruling anybody out at this point.

“Honestly, I can't lie, every school that's offered me thus far has been active and I've been active in calling them. So, I've got to talk to mostly every school that's offered me, but definitely Notre Dame. I love how genuine and truthful they're being to me.”
