Notre Dame football coach Brian Kelly spoke following the first practice of the spring. 

On injuries: 
"If you're cleared from practice, we want to get you back out there and compete. From that perspective, once you're cleared from competition and practice, we'll practice you and give you the opportunities to work on your technique, especially if you're in the defensive group. We want some continuity there.

"(Jarrett) Patterson won't have a spring ball.
