2023 Itawamba Agricultural (Miss.) safety Isaac Smith‍ picked up an early offer from Notre Dame on March 17th and made the trip to South Bend over the weekend.

The 6-foot-2, 180-pounder camped for Irish Invasion, but he also got the opportunity to check out Notre Dame’s campus and facilities.

"The campus - I liked it a lot,” Smith told ISD. “I liked the buildings, sculptures and how everything was laid out.

"The stadium was by far my favorite part. I liked seeing how the student union and everything was around it and connected with the stadium. I like how everything was so close together, like the halls and the classrooms."

The Mississippi native also noticed a significant difference in the weather despite temperatures around 90 degrees on Sunday.

"The humidity in the South is way different than up here,” laughed Smith. “This heat felt good. It wasn't hot, so it felt awesome.”

Smith also enjoyed the chance to work with Notre Dame safeties coach Chris O’Leary after building a relationship over phone since being offered.

"Getting to meet Coach O'Leary was a good deal since he offered me,” explained Smith. “He taught me a lot of new things and corrected my mistakes, of course.

"He brings a lot of energy to the table. I like that about him. If you're not doing well, he can get you going. He knows how to coach pretty well."

June will continue to be busy for Smith as he has several other visits on the schedule.

"When I get back, I'll be leaving Mississippi and driving to West Virginia on Tuesday,” said Smith. “When I get back on Friday, I'll go to the Ole Miss camp. I have Georgia and Alabama coming up."
