2023 CB Justyn Rhett Offered By Notre Dame After Impressive Camp

2023 Bishop Gorman (Nev.) cornerback Justyn Rhett‍ had high expectations for his Notre Dame visit over the weekend. 

The four-star prospect is coached by former Notre Dame defensive back Nicco Fertitta, so Rhett had heard quite a bit about South Bend before the plane landed. 

"It was great," Rhett told ISD. "This was my first visit to Notre Dame, so they set the bar high. Everything met the standard. Nicco set a high bar and Notre Dame passed it.

“I really liked the academic part of the school." 

Rhett put on a show at Irish Invasion, which led to an offer from defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman following the camp.

"I felt I did good, especially in the testing part," Rhett said. "I ran a 4-flat shuttle. I jumped 10'6" and ran a 4.4 in the 40." 

The moment Freeman offered a scholarship was a special one as Rhett was joined by his father inside The Gug.

"Coach Freeman pulled me into his office and talked to my dad and me," explained Rhett. "He let me know then I had an offer from Notre Dame. I felt it in my stomach and chest. 

"We talked for at least 20 minutes and we didn't talk about football at all. That's what I really liked." 

Freeman wasn't the only coach to impress the 6-foot-1, 190-pounder as he gravitated to Mike Mickens and Chris O'Leary during the camp.

"It felt like I already knew the coaches, especially Coach Mickens and Coach O'Leary," stated Rhett. "Coach O'Leary is filled with energy."  

Rhett will now take a few more visits as he hopes to earn a few more offers and learn more about his top schools over the rest of the month.  

"In two weeks, my family and I are going to Alabama and Georgia for visits," said Rhett. "After that, I might have a Tennessee visit, but I'm not sure yet.

"I'm hoping to make a commitment sometime this year."
