Notre Dame was persistent with 2022 Hilton Head (S.C.) linebacker Jaylen Sneed‍ and it paid off as the four-star prospect has committed to the Fighting Irish.

The 6-foot-2, 215-pounder chose the Irish over Oregon, Tennessee and a host of other programs coast to coast.

“When I stepped on campus, it just felt like home,” Sneed said on Monday night. “It felt like the place I wanted to be and needed to be.

“The whole family atmosphere of it, the tradition of it, just the way they play football is the way I want to play football.”

Sneed took his official visit to South Bend in June, but it was perhaps a March unofficial visit that made Notre Dame the team to beat. The South Carolina native made a trip to South Bend to walk around campus with his head coach BJ Payne and left blown away by the sights the campus had to offer.

"I didn't really have any expectations, but as soon as I walked on campus, I knew this place was amazing," Sneed told ISD in March. "You could see all the brickwork and the fine details. You could see all the tradition they have. It was just amazing."

Notre Dame defensive coordinator Marcus Freeman led the way as he built a strong relationship over the last five months.

"Marcus Freeman is a really good guy," Sneed said. "We talk a lot of football and relationship stuff. He's known Coach Payne for a long time.

"He sees me as a pass rusher that can come from anywhere - middle, outside and maybe a little bit of free safety."
