Samson Okunlola took a couple trips down South during the month of June.
“I took a visit to Georgia and I took a visit to Florida while I was down there for something,” the 2023 Massachusetts offensive lineman says. “They were great. I had great experiences, fun times.”
The Thayer Academy standout picked up an offer from Notre Dame back in April and is planning on getting to South Bend eventually.
“For sure, maybe during the fall for a game or maybe in the spring,” the 6-foot-5, 320-pounder says.
He says he and Irish offensive line coach Jeff Quinn speak on a weekly basis.
“He's a pretty cool guy, pretty chill,” the Brockton, Mass., native says. “We have good talks. Actually, it's pretty good now.”
Okunola says the talks center around what Notre Dame can offer him as a student-athlete.
“Just basically how they develop their o-linemen, he has a good history of developing good o-linemen for the NFL and how they have good education, where their education and football combine pretty good too,” says Okunlola.
That track record of success on and off the field has helped the Irish grab Okunlola’s attention.
In addition to Notre Dame, Okunlola’s offer sheet also includes schools like Georgia, Michigan, Florida, Florida State, Oregon, Penn State, Tennessee, USC, Vanderbilt and Virginia among others.
Okunlola doesn’t have any other visits locked in yet.
“I'm still planning on it, figuring out my bye weeks when I'm in season.”
