Jack Coan wasn’t an exciting take for Notre Dame when he popped in the Transfer Portal following the 2020 season. The Wisconsin transfer was known as a chain mover and game manager - and a quarterback who quite couldn’t get the Badgers over the hump in big games. 

It would have made sense for Notre Dame to wait out the portal into the spring and see if a bigger name shook loose or even gone all-in on Drew Pyne or Tyler Buchner.
