2024 ATH Brauntae Johnson One To Watch
It’s still too early for Brauntae Johnson to be contacted directly by college coaches, but the 2024 Indiana wide receiver has still heard plenty.
“I've been hearing a lot of good news, so really just waiting for the Fall to see where it goes from there,” the Fort Wayne native says.
The 6-foot-3, 170-pounder picked up his first offer, from Purdue, in June.
“It was really a feeling I couldn't explain it really because it just happened so fast,” Johnson says. “I was excited, but I couldn't really be that excited because I was had to take in reality what happened.”
And only days later, he added an offer from Central Michigan.
The North Side High School standout camped at Notre Dame. Johnson participated in the camp as a receiver and the Irish were impressed enough with his athleticism that they let him know they’d like to see him back at some point to work out at defensive back.
It’s something Johnson plans on doing in the future.
His initial impressions of Notre Dame are positive.
“I know that two people from where I live went there, Jaylon Smith and Ben Skowronek,” he said of the former Irish linebacker and receiver, respectively.
“According to them, they like recruiting players from Fort Wayne, so that's really all I know. And I know they're a private school and their academics are better than most colleges.”
In addition to Purdue, Central Michigan and Notre Dame, Johnson has received preliminary interest from a host of other programs.
“I've gotten a lot of mail and camp invites from schools, but other than that, it's still really early,” he says.
Johnson is also receiving interest to play basketball in college, but he isn’t ready to choose one sport over the other.
“I haven't really decided or thought about that yet,” he says. “I feel that's too early since I've still got sophomore, junior and senior year to play.”
He has thought about what he’ll be looking at when he’s choosing a school in the end.
“The success rate after college, how successful are people after they graduate from that college.”
