There were a lot of ifs going into the season for the defensive line that had to occur for it to not experience a big drop off. With Sheldon Day and Romeo Okwara gone, most of the ifs surrounded who could replace those two.

If Jerry Tillery took a big step forward. If the redshirts from the previous season could contribute. If Notre Dame got production from a true freshman. Those were the kind of ifs that needed to happen and unfortunately they didn't.
