2024 OL Luis Cordova: 'It was amazing'
It was a big weekend for 2024 Salpointe Catholic (Ariz.) offensive lineman Luis Cordova. The 6-foot-4, 270-pounder hasn’t been shy about liking Notre Dame and Cordova got his first look at game day on Saturday afternoon.
"Honestly, it was amazing,” Cordova told ISD. “It was a dream come true. Notre Dame is my dream college and visiting as a sophomore is unreal.
"Getting to meet the coaches was also really cool. It was an amazing experience this weekend."
The Arizona native had high expectations heading into the visit and those were met as the environment inside Notre Dame Stadium blew him away.
"I've always held Notre Dame to a high standard,” explain Cordova. “After seeing it in person, it gave me the full knowledge of it was it is and what it looked and felt like on game day.
"The fans were out of this world and I loved the atmosphere. The student section was amazing. Everyone had the green pom-poms and they were all doing it at the same time. They were just super hyped and it got my blood flowing because I love to see fans cheering on the team."
Cordova was also impressed with the Notre Dame students commitment to doing pushups after each score, which he would have loved to do.
"I'm a little too big for that," laughed Cordova. "I was looking around the stadium and they definitely don't do that in Arizona."
Notre Dame offensive line coach Jeff Quinn also made quite the impression on the Salpointe Catholic star as the two were able to connect before the game.
"We were eating and Coach Quinn came up to me and he was like, 'Luis Cordova,' and I shook his hand,” said Cordova. “We talked and he told me to keep working. He asked how my grades were and I really like Coach Quinn.
"I feel I could play under him and he's a nice guy. I loved his energy and tone in how he talks. He's just a really nice guy overall."
Quinn views Cordova as an interior prospect and that’s more than fine with the rising sophomore.
"Coach Quinn he wants to play me as an inside guy, which is perfectly fine,” stated Cordova. “I'm only 6-foot-4 and to be a tackle, you probably have to be 6-foot-5 or above. I'm perfectly fine playing center or guard."
Cordova will also stick around the Midwest as hell head up the road to East Lansing for the only other visit he has set.
"On Monday, I'll go to Michigan State for an unofficial,” said Cordova. “That's it for now."
