BREAKING | 2023 RB Sedrick Irvin Jr. Commits To Notre Dame
Sedrick Irvin Jr. didn’t need to make a commitment this early, but the 2023 Florida running back was confident enough in his choice that he saw no reason to wait.
On Wednesday morning, his birthday, Irvin Jr. announced his pledge to Notre Dame.
“I've always been big on the school and being able to keep in contact with the coaches and build a better relationship, it felt good to me,” the 5-foot-10, 185-pounder told Irish Sports Daily prior to his public announcement.
“Being able to get up to campus in June was a pretty good experience. They have a great tradition there.”
Irvin Jr. gives the Irish five early commits in the Class of 2023, joining defensive linemen Brenan Vernon and Keon Keeley, defensive back Adon Shuler and tight end Cooper Flanagan.
Irvin Jr.’s offer sheet also included schools like Florida State, Alabama, Tennessee, Michigan, Oregon, Stanford, USC and Michigan State, where his father was a star running back.
That trip to South Bend was a priority for him when the dead period was lifted and gave him a chance to spend time with Irish running backs coach Lance Taylor.
“He's a great coach,” Irvin Jr. said of Taylor. “He definitely knows what he talks about and has a great plan for developing running backs, which is something that he's really thought about.
“He's also big getting backs involved in all aspects of the game, not just what they're best at, but getting them better all-around.”
Irvin Jr. also had a chance to spend some time with Brian Kelly.
“I sat in his office and I was able to have a conversation with him,” the Gulliver Prep standout said. “I can tell he's a great people person and somebody who really cares about his players. We were able to sit down and talk to each other.”
Irvin Jr. is fired up about having the process over and having found his home.
“I'm super excited.”
