Navy had a really good plan to combat many of the things Notre Dame had been doing well on offense. They took away the perimeter RPOs, they blitzed on early downs often, and they often dared Notre Dame to beat them by dropping eight defenders when the Irish had an empty backfield.

Those things worked well and it led to Notre Dame starting very poorly on offense with two three-and-outs and no points on the first three possessions.

Navy had a great plan and Notre Dame still managed to average 7.
