Well, well, well…just when we all thought Notre Dame was destined to be scrambling if they wanted to bring in a fourth offensive line commit in this class, elite offensive tackle prospect Aamil Wagner‍ committed when everyone assumed he was headed to Kentucky.

To say I’m a big fan of this pickup is an understatement. Wagner has been one of my favorite prospects this cycle and I believe he has the potential to develop into a standout tackle for the Irish.

Height: 6’6”

Weight: 260

Projected Position: Offensive tackle

ISD Grade: 94 (4-star)

National Average Grade: 92.8 (4-star)

What he does best:

He has light feet and demonstrates a strong punch. Wagner has all the traits to develop into an outstanding player in pass protection including great reactionary athleticism and awareness.

He might be lacking some weight to play at the college level right now, but his strength is impressive. He plays with good bend and displays good pop at the point of attack. A basketball player as well, there is nothing finesse about his game. He brings violence.

This kind of movement and effort from an offensive tackle is special. How many others can get down the field and get a block like this? The list is very small if there is a list at all.

What he needs to improve:

I see someone who uses his length and athleticism to win in pass protection, but still has plenty of room to improve with his technique.

There are times when he false steps and that will have to get cleaned up and like a lot of players his height, he can play a bit too high with his pad level as well.

What’s his ceiling?

It’s mostly going to be about physical development with him because his tools are fantastic. Notre Dame looks like they have two players who can be great starting tackles from the 2021 class and Wagner has that kind of potential as well.

He’s someone I believe will need time to get there and the tackles in the class in front of him can give him the time to do so.

Wagner has the ceiling to be a multi-year starter at tackle and become a very high NFL Draft pick.

Who he could be:

Former USC OT Austin Jackson
