Top 2023 Athlete Luke Montgomery Names Top 6
2023 Findlay (Ohio) lineman Luke Montgomery has been the focus of many programs over the last six months and the four-star prospect has now narrowed his recruitment to six schools.
The 6-foot-5, 265-pounder will focus on Clemson, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Oklahoma and Penn State moving forward and the Fighting Irish will continue to fight for one of the Midwest’s top prospects.
Penn State was his first Power Five offer, while Ohio State is the home state team. Montgomery visited Clemson and Oklahoma during the summer and he’ll return to see the Tigers play Wake Forest this weekend.
Montgomery made two trips to South Bend in October as he was on campus for the Cincinnati and USC games.
Notre Dame continues to be a high-risk, high-reward situation as they are the only program in his top six recruiting him as a defensive lineman. Mike Elston spent some quality time with Montgomery before the USC game and then on Sunday morning before the family left South Bend, which included watching film of how he'd be used.
"Jayson Ademilola and Rylie Mills were the two guys I watched (during the game) and watched them on film," Montgomery. "They did a great job making the quarterback step up in the pocket. They had to change up the defense for what USC's offense ran and they did a great job."
Montgomery’s decision on position will be make or break for Notre Dame and the offseason will go a long way in determining where he wants to play in college.
"I really have no idea right now," laughed Montgomery. "I want to finish out the season and see where I'm at. How my body ends up developing over the next year will probably end up making that decision for me."
As of right now, Ohio State likely has an edge in this recruitment and getting him back to South Bend will be crucial for the Irish. Montgomery has kept an open mind during his recruitment, but Notre Dame will need to convince him defensive line is the best fit at the next level in the coming months.
